Civil rights organisation, AfriForum called on artists and other opinion formers to make their voices heard in its campaign to have farm murders declared a priority crime and have a specialist unit for rural safety established. Various artists confirmed that they would join the campaign. These include Steve Hofmeyr, Bobby and Karlien van Jaarsveld, Gerrie Pretorius and Adam Tas.

Ernst Roets, the Deputy CEO of AfriForum, said that artists should not underestimate their influence. ‘Artists have an important role to play in taking a stance about social issues that concern their supporters without involving party politics.’

Next week AfriForum will announce a dozen projects that they will launch in the following months. Artists and the public will be involved. The complete list of artists who will participate in the campaign will be announced later this month at an evening function in Pretoria.
