AfriForum shall oppose the application for Leave to Appeal intended by the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality against the judgement and orders of the Honourable Justice Bill Prinsloo on Friday, 19 April 2013. Judge Prinsloo made an order, stopping the Municipality from removing the old street names, pending the finalisation of a Review Application brought by AfriForum against the changes of 25 street names in the capital city, Pretoria.
The City of Tshwane Municipality indicated in their Notice of Application for Leave to Appeal that they would apply to the High Court for leave to appeal the judgement and order, either to a full bench of the North Gauteng High Court or the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein.
AfriForum is convinced that the order by the court to re-instate the old names was granted on good grounds and that there is no legal basis for the Municipality’s appeal against the order. AfriForum will oppose the application for Leave to Appeal. Should it be granted, AfriForum will make sure that the interests of Pretoria residents are represented in whatever court may hear such an appeal.
