Political and economic relations between Serbia and South Africa will come under scrutiny as Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ebrahim Ebrahim, begins his two-day visit to that country.

During Ebrahim’s visit, it is hoped that outstanding priority agreements between the two countries will be finalsed.

Draft agreements between the two countries that are under consideration include the protocol on political consultations between the foreign ministries; waiver of visa requirements of diplomatic and official passports; agreement on avoidance of double taxation, and a Memorandum of Understanding on law enforcement cooperation.

Attention will also be paid to building cooperation in the fields of education and skills development, including pushing for reform of the global governance system and exchanging views on the African Agenda and South-South cooperation.

South Africa and Serbia share similar values on many international issues and have supported each other’s candidatures for non-permanent seats at the United Nations Security Council and on the UN Human Rights Council.

Ebrahim is also scheduled to meet with several high level delegations in Serbia, including the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and Minister of the Interior, Ivica Dacic; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vuk Jeremic; Minister of Education and Science, Zarko Obradovic and the State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ivan Mrkic.
