Committee distanced itself from one of its member’s statement

The Portfolio Committee on Communications has distanced itself from the statement issued by Mr Gavin Davids, a Committee Member from the Democratic Alliance (DA), in which he talked about the Committee’s move to suspend the South African Broadcasting Corporation board Chairperson, Ms Zandile Tshabalala.

The Committee reiterates that it will refuse to be drawn into making public pronouncement in the media about matters that have a potential not only to undermine the integrity of its work, but also trample on the principle of natural justice.

As a matter of principle, the Committee is committed to affording Ms Tshabalala a fair inquiry, in which she will be invited to give her side of the story regarding the allegations levelled on her. “We are committed to upholding the ruling of the Western Cape High Court that we need to respect the principle of natural justice in dealing with this matter. It is therefore against this backdrop that the Committee resorts to remain reticent about contents of the statement issued by Mr Davids,” said Joyce Moloi-Moropa, Committee Chairperson.

Ms Moloi-Moropa further appeals to all Members of the Committee to refrain from making public announcements on matters that may compromise the work of the Committee.
