The 39-year-old artist died in her sleep after spending two weeks in a coma fighting for her life at Sunninghill hospital, Johannesburg.
The arts and culture ministry said the singer left a void in the multimillion-rand music industry In the same vein, the Presidency praised the Langa, Cape Town, born musician for her contribution to the country's arts, culture and political landscape.
Amongst other songs she was famous for was the hit "Black President".
"We salute the sister from Langa, who lives on in her timeless songs," said the Presidency.
She was not only a South African singer, but also a Pan-African griot, making souls rise in bliss wherever her voice reached.
