Three foreign ministers representing South Africa, India and Brazil pulled down the curtain on their New Delhi meeting on Friday by vowing to push for drastic reforms within the United Nations Security Council.

The three countries have repeatedly called for a review of all of the UN's influential structures, saying the Security Council, as configured today, "is not representative of present-day realities".

Although the developing nations constitute a majority of the world body's membership, their voices within the UN security council are severely curtailed, with few developed nations still calling the shots at the New York-based international mother body. Currently only the US, France, Britain, China and Russia have permanent seats and veto powers while developing nations share amongst themselves rotational non-permanent roles, with little or no power. India, Brazil and South Africa under the Ibsa Dialogue Forum, aim to change the status quo, by gaining permanent seats, a move many believe, could increase the voices of developing nations on international issues.
