The Minister and his departmental delegation will be attending the India, Brazil, South Africa Trilateral Commission (IBSA) seminar titled 'Economic Development with Social Equity', that ends on Friday.
Directors-General for Social Development and Foreign Affairs Vusi Madonsela and Ayanda Ntsaluba, are part of the delegation.
The social development department said the seminar was a result of meetings held by officials of the three countries in New Delhi and Brasilia earlier, and the IBSA meeting in Cape Town this year.
At the meetings, a task team was established for the co-ordination of the seminar led by the Department of Social Development.
It seeks to promote better knowledge among IBSA members' national policies and strategies that promote economic and social development as well as to understand the challenges faced by the communities and identify areas of intervention.
The delegates at the seminar will also exchange views on international development challenges.
"Resolutions that will come out of this seminar will form part of the programme of action for the IBSA sector responsible for social development to be established," the department said.
During the seminar, the department's Deputy Director General for Integrated Development Vuyelwa Nhlapo, the Chief Director for Development Implementation Support Sadie Luka will deliver papers.
The IBSA trilateral commission forms part of government's efforts to improve cooperation with countries of the south (south-south cooperation), especially with regard to efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). - BuaNews
