Title: J Radebe: Opening of Ikhaya Lokundiza
REMARKS BY JEFF RADEBE, MP, MINISTER OF TRANSPORT, AT OFFICIAL OPENING OF IKHAYA LOKUNDIZA, NEW HEADQUARTERS FOR THE CAA (CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY), Midrand, Gauteng, 15 October 2004
It is always a pleasure to attend a housewarming party. And especially pleasant when the residence is the new home of a very important member of South African society and economy: the Civil Aviation Authority.
Just last week I returned from Montreal, Canada, from the 35th Session of the Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) where South Africa supported important initiatives that will drive the global civil aviation community, and where, to our honour, South Africa was elected to the 36-member Governing body of ICAO for another three year term of office. We are extremely proud to stand alongside other African countries, such as Nigeria, Tunisia, Mozambique, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Cameroon, to serve our continent in this important field of international activity.
South Africa has been asked to take a leadership role in a number of areas, and civil aviation is but one area where we have committed our resources for the growth and strengthening of a sound regulatory environment that benefits the region as a whole. Agencies such as the Civil Aviation Authority must take necessary measures to ensure that they not only exist but must deliver exceptionally on their mandate. Only sound organisations can provide quality expertise that contributes to the wellness of African civil aviation.
Of all the Government,
