Nthoese Developments hosted a sod-turning ceremony to mark the commencement of the redevelopment and expansion of Bushbuckridge shopping centre to address the social-economic challenges in the area.

Despite the ongoing global pandemic and tough property market this year, Nthoese is forging ahead with the expansion and redevelopment of the existing Bushbuckridge shopping centre that will be rebranded to become Bushbuckridge mall.

The shopping centre is located at the corner of R40 and R533 in Bushbuckridge CBD which is portion 8 (a portion of portion 5) of the farm Maviljan 252 measuring 7,4608 hectares. The R40 is the main north-south road through the municipal area. It links Nelspruit through Hazyview to Phalaborwa Limpopo.

Bushbuckridge Urban Renewal Programme is a scheme introduced by the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality to address the social-economic challenges in the area. The scheme will provide, but not limited to, public modal transport, social facilities, commercial and tourism facilities.

The project is set to cost R348 million and will create 1140 jobs during construction and 623 full-time jobs post-construction for the community of Bushbuckridge.

“The community of Bushbuckridge is experiencing exponential growth and the current infrastructure provided is not sufficient for its growth. The construction of a bus terminal and taxi rank will address the infrastructure challenges faced by the community. This will allow for ease of movement around the CBD. These upgrades are all for the benefit of the community of Bushbuckridge,” said Herbert Theledi, CEO of Nthoese Property Developments.  In addition, Nthoese Development with the Critical Infrastructure Programme funding granted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will upgrade all the bulk services, such as Roads, Stormwater, Water and Sewer.

Furthermore, Theledi added, “we are proud that the new infrastructure allows for ease of movement from different rural communities in and around Bushbuckridge to the Bushbuckridge CBD. With the new shopping centre strategically located in the heart of the CBD, community members can accomplish their daily tasks within the CBD at a lesser travelling cost. This further proves that infrastructure upgrades are critical to the longevity of the community,” said Theledi.

Within the property industry, the focus remains that we create a brighter future for South Africa.

“Our passion at Nthoese has always been to use property development to uplift communities. We continue to support sustainable economic development and job creation throughout our projects with methods that are in line with the Department of Public Works strategy on BEE, job creation and poverty alleviation,” concluded Theledi.
