The Public Servants Association (PSA) calls for a decisive intervention to end continued power cuts experienced by General De La Rey Hospital in North West, which force the Hospital to reschedule important procedures owing to unreliable back-up generators.
The sluggish response by Eskom and the non-intervention by the MEC of Health in ensuring that damaged cables are addressed, and that power is restored to the Hospital is condemned strongly. The PSA is disturbed by the MEC of Health’s attitude of responding to urgent issues only when these receive Media hype or there is loss of life. Hospitals provide essential services and any crisis that affects such operations for more than 24 hours should receive urgent intervention by the Department of Health’s highest delegation.
The PSA whilst applauding the Hospital’s employees who manage to sustain service delivery amidst the crisis, urge the MEC of Health to intervene in order to prevent a looming disaster.
