A significant step towards enhancing the lives of the residents of Eldorado Park took place today as the MMC for Human Settlements, Anthea Leitch, was joined by esteemed dignitaries and the community for the soil turning event.
The event saw the commencement of a crucial infrastructure upgrade to replace the inadequate and old 110mm pipes with much larger 160mm pipes to deal with the constant problem of sewage overflows in people’s back yards.
Executive Director Patrick Phophi, Ward 18 Councillor Juwairiya Kaldine and community members gathered alongside MMC Anthea Leitch to mark this important occasion.
A walkabout was conducted to assess the current state of infrastructure in the area. Today's soil turning event underscored a commitment to implementing vital upgrades that will improve the lives of our residents.
"Today, we stand united in our determination to bring about positive change," stated MMC Leitch.
“Let me apologise to the residents of the flats. No people should be ignored or denied services due to their race, financial status or political affiliation. Rest assured that regardless of political affiliation I am committed to serve all residents of the City of Johannesburg.”
This infrastructure upgrade represents a step forward in providing better living conditions for our residents.
MMC Leitch added, "We are not just building pipes and structures; we are building a bridge to a more prosperous through the job opportunities that will be created by this project."
This soil turning event marks the commencement of a journey that will result in improved infrastructure, increased opportunities for employment and skills development as well as enhanced dignity for the residents of Johannesburg.
The project's success hinges on the collective effort and partnership with the community and all stakeholders involved.
