The DA in the Western Cape has noted the progress made on the Cape Town Central line. The line between Langa and Nyanga is in the final stages of testing, cleaning, and rebuilding, and is anticipated to open in due course. This line is a vital link for thousands of people who rely on it to get to and from work, school, and essential services in Cape Town City Centre.

For years, commuters on Cape Town’s Central line have been denied access to an affordable and reliable train service due to Metrorail and Prasa’s inefficiencies. And as rising interest rates have made transport fees more expensive for consumers, the demand for public transportation alternatives has increased.

The Western Cape Provincial Government has identified this need, and through the Department of Mobility, the province is investing in public transportation infrastructure to provide more affordable and accessible options for citizens. The Provincial Government is also working collaboratively with the City of Cape Town to ensure that residents have access to safe and reliable transportation.

MPP Derrick America says: “To achieve the goal of an integrated transportation system that includes taxis, trains, and buses, the DA-run Western Cape Government is partnering with stakeholders to coordinate services and reduce costs for commuters. By creating an efficient and interconnected transportation system, we will not only make commuting more affordable and accessible but also reduce traffic congestion and air pollution in the city.

At a time when the economic situation in the country has created hardships for many, we believe that access to affordable and reliable transportation is a fundamental right. The DA in the Western Cape is committed to doing everything in our power to ensure that it is accessible to all of the province’s residents.”
