- President Zuma: The first to-and-a-half years0.16 MB
In little more than a year from now the ANC is scheduled to hold its next elective conference, in Mangaung. There, Jacob Zuma may be re-elected as the organisation’s president; or he may be defeated. For all the official pronouncements that the ‘succession issue’ is not to be discussed publicly by party members, voices for and against Mr Zuma are becoming increasingly shrill. A second term as ANC leader is anything but guaranteed; and if he is denied that, then his term as national president will, at best, simply limp along until the 2014 general election. Worse for him, he may find himself removed from national office early, as was the fate of Thabo Mbeki.
