Zola-Jabulani Hospital to be officially renamed
The Gauteng Premier David Makhura together with the Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu will officially unveil the new name for the state of the art Zola-Jabulani District Hospital.
The Hospital will be renamed after a struggle icon Godfrey Bhekiziwe Mlangeni, a human rights lawyer born and bred in Soweto. Mlangeni was killed by the apartheid regime through a bomb that was sent to him as a Walkman music cassette player.
The R730 million Hospital, which opened its doors exactly a year ago as an outstanding example of the provincial government’s commitment to modernise public services. The 300 beds Hospital was built to reduce pressure from the nearby Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital which provides high level care services and improve access to health services.
The renaming of the Hospital followed an intensive community consultation process where the new name was chosen by the community members.
