The Public Protector has received responses from all parties regarding the draft report she compiled following the investigation into an alleged lease agreement for the police headquarters in Pretoria. The investigation was carried out jointly with the Special Investigations Unit.
Comments from the South African Police Service were received on Sunday, 23 January 2011, while a response from the National Treasury, which was not part of the investigation but was asked to comment, was received on Friday, 21 January 2011. Comments from the Department of Public Works and the complainant, Mr Paul Hoffman, were received earlier in the month.
The Public Protector will now evaluate the responses and if they are found to have a bearing on the provisional findings, that will be taken into account during the finalisation of the report, which will be released early February. The investigation into the Durban SAPS lease is still continuing.
“I am pleased that all organs of state involved met the deadline. I would like to thank all leaders of the organs of state involved. It is this kind of cooperation that makes our work easier,” the Public Protector said.
