Title: Peters: Festive season message, Northern Cape

NORTHERN CAPE MEC FOR HEALTH E.D PETERS's FESTIVE SEASON MESSAGE

"A laborious year has gone by, only memories remain.

We have witnessed our country going through yet another successful democratic phase of reconstruction and development, which will fast track the delivery of a better healthy life to all our people especially those residing in rural areas.

As we get into gear and get engulfed by the wave of festivity, let us be mindful of and empathise with all our people who are living under the yoke of poverty, psychological and physical abuse.

As we untie the ribbons to unwrap the gifts of "hope" sent by our loved ones we should remember those who are infected and affected with HIV/AIDS especially orphans.

Collectively, side-by-side, we can build a caring society that generously takes heed to the plight of the aged, disabled, women and our children.

We should join our hands this festive season with a noble resolve to help them overcome all these social ills and strive to restore the moral fibre of the society.

Together we succeeded in making access easy for our people to the ever improving public health services and if we continue with this good work it will positively contribute to the success of NEPAD.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say thanks, for all you've done towards our endeavours to create a better, healthy life for all our people by restoring back their dignity. God bless you most abundantly with joys that never cease.

Lastly I would like to appeal to all road users to help the country by applying extra vigilance along our roads during this busiest time of the year.

The lives of all our citizens are valuable. We have lost so many South Africans to crime; we must all work together to ensure that lives are not taken on the roads. Government is playing its role through the Arrive Alive campaign, but we cannot do this without everyone's commitment. I call on all fellow road users to be especially safety conscious during the festive season. Container trucking companies should be particularly cautious and aware of their responsibilities.

This country loses many innocent and valuable lives through road accidents simply because of recklessness, drunkenness, speeding and other related road punishable offences. As such, if we are to succeed in pushing back the frontiers of poverty and building a better life for all, we need to start by preserving our lives at all cost.

I urge those that will embark on holidays to service their motor vehicles, have adequate rest, don't abuse alcohol and obey all rules. Those drivers that can't run away from the bottle, they must ensure that they have backup drivers.

We call upon law enforcers to be harsher during this time. They must arrest all those culprits who want to destroy our good image as the country.

I have confidence in law enforces that indeed they will succeed the same way they did during Easter holidays. I also have confidence in the discipline of South Africans who have gone a long way to make our country better. Together as a nation, we will win; we will reduce road accidents and make a better, healthy life for all our people.

On behalf of the Ministry and the entire staff of the health department we wish all South Africans a joyous festive season and a prosperous new year.

May your Christmas be blessed and joyful and your new year be one of peace and prosperity.

Sininqwenelela I Krismesi emnandi nonyaka omtsha oyokozela amathamsanqa ulonwabo nempumelelo.

Masego le matlhogonolo a keresemose le tswelelopele mo ngwageng o moswa.

Beste wense vir 'n geseende en vreugdevolle kersfees met 'n vreedsame en voorpoedige nuwe jaar.
