Following Tuesday's Conference for the Future of South Africa, OUTA commends the organisers Ahmed Kathrada Foundation and SaveSA for the effort and coordination put into ensuring a high level of representation and the participation of a broad range of civil society movements and political leadership.

“This conference proves that civil society can cooperate and work together to find solutions to the political crises we face from time to time, whilst at the same time we are able to retain our respective identities and areas of focus,” says Wayne Duvenage, OUTA’s Chairperson.

“While there are a number of concerns that most South Africans have about declining service delivery and the poor performance of of our government today, the one burning issue that has galvanised civil society to work together in fighting for our hard-earned freedom and dignity is that of state capture and the disgusting conduct of our corrupt President and some of his cabinet members.”

Many initiatives will now be rolled out as we work together with like-minded civil action organisations to address the motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma, which is due to be held on 8 August.

This is a critical event in that it is just one of a number of opportunities that we need to target, in order to influence the removal of President Zuma from his position of power. Failing this outcome, there are many more actions planned to roll out and, even when Zuma goes, there is a lot of work to do to give birth to a new and better South Africa, devoid of future state capture antics.

Whilst working alongside many organisations and initiatives, OUTA will always maintain its own identity and will continue to work hard on the various projects it undertakes to hold to account those who abuse their authority.
