Title: Omar: Christmas Message
Christmas Message by the Minister of Transport, Prof D Omar, 24 December 2002
WE CAN ALL HAVE A SAFE AND MERRY CHRISTMAS
The festive season is meant to be time for happiness and family reunion. No one can explain the pain and sorrow many families and relatives of victims of road accidents are going through. Only those who have lost their friends and families understand their mourning and loss.
We are all saddened by the number of lives already lost on our roads. More than 700 families will spend this festive season without their loved ones.
We appeal to motorists to drive responsibly this festive season, to look out for pedestrians at all times and follow the rules and regulations of the road. Pedestrians should walk on the safe side of the road, wear visible clothes and be alert at all times.
Responsible road users should continue to follow rules and regulation of the road and continue to support the Arrive Alive campaign.
No one deserves to die on the road, let us play our role in the Road to Safety.
I therefore wish all a safe and merry festive season.
Abdulah M. Omar, MP
Minister of Transport
Republic of South Africa
