In July 2008, ICASA took a decision to award and individual commercial subscription broadcasting service license to Telkom media (Pty) Ltd. The license was physically issued to Telkom Media (Pty) Ltd in August 2008. Subsequent thereto, Telkom SA Limited, a majority shareholder in Telkom media took a decision to disinvest in Telkom Media by selling its shares to a third party, namely Shenzen Media South Africa (Pty) Ltd.
