International legal practice Norton Rose South Africa (incorporated as Deneys Reitz Inc) assisted Hewlett-Packard (HP) with the incorporation of subsidiaries in various African jurisdictions, including in Botswana, Cote d'Ivoire, Congo Brazzaville, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mauritius, Mozambique, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda.

HP’s Africa expansion reflects the appetite of technology companies to accelerate their business growth in developing markets in Africa.

The Norton Rose South Africa and Africa Legal team which worked on the transaction was led by Gabriel Meyer, assisted by Mosa Thekiso and candidate attorneys Gareth Munnick and Burton Phillips.

Gabriel Meyer commented:

“We are proud to have supported one of the world’s largest technology companies with the expansion of its operations in Africa by establishing new subsidiaries in more than ten of the continent’s fast-growing economies. The project was challenging due to the tight timelines and the number of jurisdictions involved. We completed the project in good time thanks to our prior Africa experience and the established relationships we have with local counsel in the various jurisdictions in Africa

Over the next few weeks, the team will complete the licensing of these HP subsidiaries.
