It is never fun having to reject a claim but we have found a fun way to learn how to do it fairly.

As the brainchild of who else but Donald Dinnie, director at global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright, for the next part of the popular Big Read Book Series, the team has produced a unique Comic Book Edition of their updated ‘how-to’ book on the Avoidance & Cancellation of Policies and Rejection of Claims. Many of you will quickly recognise the drawings of Dennis Havenga who did the cover for a number of years for Cover magazine.

We have taken plain language to a new level of plain cartooning and it works best of all. There’s a challenge for you, but we don’t expect to see multi-peril comic books soon.

While you are working remotely or not remotely working or just working, here is the easiest way ever to get some important information and to light up your eyes above that mask. You can happily find the law and find your favourite Norton Rose Fulbright insurance lawyer at the same time. What could be nicer than cartoon setwork?

And now a word from Donald (Dinnie not Duck): “We have had great fun creating our comic book. It is probably a world first in insurance law and continues in the great tradition of comic books. It even complies with the original comics code of 1954 which provided ‘all scenes of horror, excessive bloodshed, gory or gruesome crimes, depravity, lust, sadism and masochism shall not be permitted.’ Sorry, but I’m sure you will nevertheless enjoy the read.”

Don’t forget the rest of our Big Read Book series which has earned high praise in the industry and covers a review of insurance judgments from 2018 and 2019, avoidance and cancellation of non-life insurance policies, and a guide to reinstatement value conditions and covering topics such as:

  • Reviewing the law on reasonable precautions
  • When does a claim under a liability policy prescribe?
  • Loss adjusters’ reports may not be privileged
  • Proof of online questions in insurance application
  • Fraud as a defence to payment under a guarantee
  • Principal debtor can rectify guarantee between guarantor & beneficiary

Available in soft and hard copy from your favourite Norton Rose Fulbright insurance lawyer and (on request) a version autographed by the cartoonist and all of those caricatured within - subject to a donation to The Menzi Children’s Home.
