Nonprofit youth organisation ACTIVATE! Change Drivers and Brand South Africa (SA) will, on Friday, launch a youth month campaign to promote constitutionalism and inspire active citizenship among South Africa’s youth, during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The launch will take place on ACTIVATE! Change Drivers’ and Brand SA’s Facebook Live pages, with about 200 young people between the ages of 18 to 35.

The campaign will kick off with an online conversation to unpack the position of young people in South Africa’s democracy and aims to inspire a sense of pride and patriotism that will drive positive change and hope.

“This online conversation comes at a critical time where the world is facing a pandemic that threatens the lives and the wellbeing of all people globally but that has not deterred the youth in South Africa from standing up and engaging on critical issues that affect their lives,” said Brand SA GM for stakeholder relations Mpumi Mabuza.

ACTIVATE! Change Drivers manager Malusi Mazibuko explained that the campaign will illustrate everyday expressions of the Constitution, and the conversation will be kicked off by South African actress and television personality Nomzamo Mbatha and musician Zakwe.

Mabuza explained that, through this youth month campaign, a platform for young people to engage on the significance of their voice in the country’s democracy would be provided.

Mazibuko explained that as a network of over 4 200 youth leaders ACTIVATE! championed issues that might infringe the rights of every South African within the health, education and gender-based-violence sectors.

It also helps young people understand why and how the Constitution has shaped these sectors and why it makes the Constitution one of the best in the world.
