The three are deputy director general of the Private Office Lorato Phalatse, deputy director general of Communications Murphy Morobe and the chief operating officer Trevor Fowler.
Introducing the three, director-general in the Presidency Frank Chikane said the appointments were a move to ensure excellence in government, which the Presidency strove for.
He dismissed notions that by reinforcing the Presidency, President Thabo Mbeki was centralizing power.
"It is not about power but capacity to deliver because we have got a contract with the people to deliver...and for us to deliver we must have capacity," he explained, adding that capacity would be imperative in evaluating and monitoring government's performance.
He said the role of the Presidency was to provide high quality professional support to the President, Deputy President and Minister in the Presidency in the execution of their executive responsibilities.
Fowler said the creation of his post was to enhance the already effective nature of the Presidency and to afford the President and his deputy the ability to monitor and ensure that the government's programme of action was implemented.
"The role of the chief operating officer is to ensure that that support is put in place," he said.
Phalatse's role is to coordinate President Mbeki's domestic and international programme, ensure that logistical concerns are in place and deal with his security.
"We essentially manage his diary," she explained.
Morobe said one of his critical tasks would be to streamline the flow of communication from the Presidency.
"One of the things that have to mark our success would have to be the way in which we can measure the responsiveness to ordinary things that people raise with the Presidency," he said. – BuaNews.
