The new judges are: Sisi Sibongile Virginia Khampepe, Christopher Nyaole Jafta, Johan Coenraad Froneman and Mogoeng Thomas Reetsang Mogoeng.

The new appointees follow in the footsteps of outgoing Chief Justice Pius Langa, Judge Yvonne Mokgoro, Judge Kate O'Regan and Judge Albie Sachs.

"On the 1st of October 2009, President Zuma announced the appointment of Justice Sandile Ngcobo as the new Chief Justice of South Africa. Chief Justice Sandile Ngcobo assumes office on Monday 12 October 2009," the presidency said in a statement.
