On Mandela Day (July 18) during the cleanup campaign at Pelonomi Hospital led to the discovery of a huge supply of medical consumables stashed away in some unused storeroom. Clearly the intentions of the people who stored these supplies there were not good. If they had good intentions they should have opened the store to supply the much needed medical supplies to the wards which continue to be in dire need of such. We need to know the motives of stashing these medical supplies and know who was involved in this heartless act!

We call on the Department of Health to act swiftly on this matter and investigate this matter in full. We call on the Department of Health to suspend with immediate effect the management in Pelonomi Hospital to give way for proper investigations. They have really gone beyond the boundaries in bringing the Department into disrepute this time around!
Our take is that the management there remain accountable for their acts or omissions and have to be brought to book. They should have picked it up that there was a problem with the supplies in the hospital when the stock ran out sooner than it should. If they could not pick it up then they do not have capacity to manage Pelonomi Hospital and incapacity processes should unfold.

At the end of it all NEHAWU members who have been subjected to an unfair suspension from raising issues of malpractices and abuse of power in the institution have been vindicated, and yes at the end of it all the workers standing together are proven correct!
