The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] welcomes the decision of the National Executive Committee [NEC] of the African National Congress [ANC] to recall President Jacob Zuma.

As NEHAWU, applaud the NEC for taking this long awaited decision which is in the interest of both the ANC and the masses of our people. We hope this decision will assist the ANC in decisively overcoming challenges of factionalism and help instil both unity and cohesion amongst its structures.

The national union calls on President Zuma to respect Rule 12.2.21.2 of the ANC constitution and do the honourable thing and resign from office with immediate effect. A speedily resolution of this matter is required urgently to save the ANC from further embarrassment and if President Zuma loves the ANC as he claims he does he will resign with immediate effect.

We call on Cde Cyril Ramaphosa to rise to the occasion and lead the country to calm waters. We have faith that a Ramaphosa presidency will refocus the trajectory of the National Democratic Revolution [NDR] and stabilize our economy.

As NEHAWU, we believe that the sooner Cde Ramaphosa ascends to the top office the sooner we can get the country out of the doldrums. Exemplary leadership is required to ferociously wage a war against the tripe challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequalities.

Issued by NEHAWU Secretariat
