The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] strike at the Services SETA enters day 12 today having started on the 6th November 2018.

The union had a meeting with the employer yesterday after several attempts to try resolve the impasse between the two parties failed. As the strike intensified the employer was compelled to pay attention to our demands with a view to resolve them as a matter of urgency. However, NEHAWU is dismayed by the unbecoming behaviour exhibited by the employer even after our meeting that was convened yesterday. The employer issued a press statements which undermines the progress we had registered in trying to resolve the current deadlock. Moreover, the press statement by the employer is far from the truth and not a true reflection of our strike action.

The National Office Bearers of NEHAWU will join members at the picket lines if a solution is not found in the next 24 hours failing which the strike action will be intensified

It is alarming that the employer is using the skills development funds to employ lawyers in resolving the impasse between the SETA and NEHAWU. Central to the issues raised by the union is the matter related to mismanagement of public funds by the SETA. NEHAWU has been on the forefront of exposing the looting of public funds by the executive and senior management. In this regard, our legal team is busy preparing to open criminal cases against individuals alleged to have siphoned funds from the SETA.

Workers are annoyed by the fact that the employer has decided to implement the no work no pay principle while negotiations are still ongoing. We demand that deduction that have already taken place be reversed with immediate effect.
