Recently documents became available detailing the plans for a national health insurance scheme for South Africa. The national health insurance scheme or NHI will be a compulsory scheme requiring membership by all South Africans. The payment for the NHI will thus come from a levy or tax deducted from the salaries of those in the formal sector and by the State for the unemployed.
