The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs ("the Minister") has given notice of her intention to set Norms and Standards for Biodiversity Management Plans for Ecosystems ("Norms and Standards").

The purpose of these Norms and Standards is to guide the development of Biodiversity Management Plans – Ecosystems ("BMP-E"), providing a consistent approach to BMP-E across the country, while being sufficiently flexible to accommodate the variability of ecosystems and their management requirements.

It is important to note that the draft Norms and Standards for BMP-E have been designed for terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and are not intended to be used for estuarine ecosystems.

Members of the public are invited to submit written representations on or objections to the draft Norms and Standards to the Minister within 30 days of the date of publication of the notice in the Government Gazette (i.e. on or before 1 August 2012).

Notice No: 532 GG: 35486 Date: 02/07/2012
