Title: N Pandor: Opening of Isandlwana High School
Address by Minister of Education, Naledi Pandor, MP, at the opening of the Isandlwana High School, Gingindlovu, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Mrs Mildred Oliphant, MP Mrs Ina Cronje, KZN MEC of Education Mrs NM Mthembu, (Principal) Mr TM Mabaso, SGB Chair Distinguished guests I am pleased to be here with you today on this important occasion, to celebrate the opening of Isandlwana High School. The short history of Isandlwana High School is an example to us all. It symbolizes the collective will of the people to succeed against daunting odds.
The school was a contradiction in terms. It was a school without classrooms. It was founded in 2003, with 120 learners and two teachers, as a platoon school sharing space with a primary school nearby. As the number of pupils grew, the school expanded into the nearby church.
Today I have come to open a brand new, ultra-modern school, comprising 23 classrooms, five special rooms (science laboratory, biology laboratory, home economics room, needlework room and library), administration block and store-rooms. It will be a home from home to 450 pupils and 14 educators. It has space for expansion; only half of its classrooms are currently in use; there has been forethought in its design and its intention to serve the future needs of the community.
This is a cause for celebration; for the school, for the community, and for the nation.
We celebrate one more significant milestone in the provision of education. These 23 classrooms are part of MEC Cronje,
