Johannesburg will appoint an ombudsman to deal with municipal-related complaints from the public in 2013, according to a report on Thursday.
Johannesburg mayor Parks Tau said on Wednesday the ombudsman's office would be an independent mechanism which would take appropriate action on poor service to the public, The Star reported.
The office was aimed at increasing and enhancing the accountability of public officials.
The public were expected to have recourse through such an office without having to resort to the National Consumer Commission or the Public Protector.
Residents were given three months in which to make an input into the setting up of the office.
