Provincial and Local Government Minister Sydney Mufamadi has called on the private sector to invest in the development of public infrastructure.

Briefing the media in Parliament today, the minister said years of neglect during the apartheid era had resulted in immense infrastructure backlogs.

For this reason, he said it was difficult for government to attract outside investment into certain parts of the country.

Minister Mufamadi said it was important for government to address this problem to ensure that people had access to services that they were constitutionally entitled to.

“The State is playing its part but the capacity of the State to deal with this problem is obviously limited”.

Hence, he said, there was a need for the private sector to come aboard. He added that government was committed to cultivating links that needed to exist between the public and private sectors to fuel economic growth. –BuaNews.
