It is a pleasure to welcome you to this Joint General Assembly of International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and International Accreditation Forum (IAF). I am proud that both ILAC and IAF are meeting in South Africa. I am also delighted to see so many of our colleagues from SADC and from other African countries, seeing that this is the first time that this conference is hosted by an African accreditation body.
As international structures that are linked into the global trade system the role of your organisations have become increasingly relevant as we see an acceleration of the rate of globalisation, which has seen national economies becoming increasingly integrated since the 1990,
