Title: Molefe: Statement on bus crash near Bethlehem
PREMIER POPO MOLEFE'S STATEMENT ON BUS CRASH TRAGEDY
On behalf of the provincial government and the people of the North West, I wish to convey my condolences and deepest sympathy to the families, colleagues and friends of all those who lost their lives following the horror bus crash near Bethlehem on Workers' Day. I also wish all the injured speedy recovery.
I wish their families, Cosatu and the Sol Plaatjie Municipality the strength they need to cope with this tragic incident, which shocked and touched the hearts of the entire nation.
As we express our sorrow and mourn the tragic deaths of our comrades and colleagues, let us also use this tragedy to pay tribute to millions of workers whose sweat has contributed immeasurably to our country's economy, and on whose shoulders reside the wealth of this nation.
As we recover from our shock and begin to come to terms with this tragedy, let us remember the proud legacy that these heroes leave behind - that of selfless commitment to the cause of the working people, and to the programme of building a better South Africa. Acting in unity to push back the frontiers of poverty will be the best tribute all of us can pay to these fallen heroes.
I urge the people of the North West to support the Trust Fund that was set up by Cosatu and the People's Bank to help the bereaved families.
May their souls rest in peace.
