Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane said on Wednesday that she was not concerned about the provincial African National Congress's (ANC's) reported attempts to remove her from her position.

"The unseating of Nomvula Mokonyane is not my business," she told a press briefing in Johannesburg.

Mokonyane said she could not act on speculation or rumours and that she was in office because of the ANC.

Her comments follow media reports that there was a looming purge to remove her as Premier of the province.

"I've been appointed by the ANC and I remain focused on the responsibility bestowed on me... this year will be an exciting year," she said following a Gauteng executive council meeting.
