South Africa’s industrial revolution under Afrikaner leadership was State-led, with the private sector showing negligible investor interest, says Moeletsi Mbeki, who spoke in Johannesburg on May 27 at the Bureau for Economic Research conference.

Mbeki, the entrepreneur brother of former South African President Thabo Mbeki, observes that, under ANC rule, importation-based consumption growth is replacing the previous era of State-led industrial growth, without creating jobs of any significance inside the country.
