Depu ty President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka has left for the United Kingdom as part of South Africa’s efforts to ensure a faster and shared economic growth while building partnerships with the international community.

Accompanied by Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Sue van der Merwe, Mlambo-Ngcuka is expected to pay a working visit to Scotland and London in the UK.

The trip follows President Thabo Mbeki’s visit to British Prime Minister Tony Blair last week.

The two leaders held economic and political bilateral discussions.

On Monday Mlambo-Ngcuka is scheduled to address the world congress of the International Press Institute and the 55th general assembly on “The Year We Left Behind” in Scotland.

On Tuesday, the Deputy President will deliver a keynote address at the Reuters’ “Newsmaker” breakfast, hosted by Naill FitzGerald, non-executive chairperson of Reuters and member of President Thabo Mbeki’s International Investment Council.

In her addresses, she will focus on the prospects of economic growth in South Africa.

Mlambo-Ngcuka is also expected to be the guest of honour at a luncheon for Cape Diamonds plc which was admitted on Friday to the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market.

The deputy president and van der Merwe are expected to return to South Africa on Wednesday. -BuaNews
