The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Naledi Pandor and the India’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Ms. Ruchira Kamboj will launch the Gandhi Mandela Centre of Specialisation for Artisan Skills at the Tshwane South TVET College (Pretoria West), 150 Industrial Road, on Monday, 08 October 2018 at 11h30.
South Africa and India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in July, this year, on the margins of the Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) Summit, held in Sandton, Johannesburg to cooperate with one another in setting up of the Centre of Specialisation for Artisans Skills.
This was in recognition of South Africa’s desire to promote quality vocational education and training for young people, as well as the need for artisan skills in the country.
The MoU stipulates that India will provide the following;

·      a package of technical expertise, training materials, machines and equipment as well as interactive ICT equipment for video conferencing and self-directed learning at one or two locations of a pilot network of artisan skills-linked campuses, which shall include supply, transportation from the port to the project site, installation and commissioning of the supplied machines and equipment; and
