Publ ic Enterprises Minister Alec Erwin is "open-minded" about the privatisation of the Airports Company of South Africa (Acsa), his director-general Dr Eugene Mokeyane said.

"The position is that the minister is open minded on this," Mokeyane told Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee on Public Enterprises yesterday.

He said several teams were reviewing industry opinions on the privatisation of Acsa.

"They are just reviewing broadly what opinions exist. There is a compelling case to probably do so... the minister is noncommittal but open minded (on privatisation)," he said.

The department was developing a restructuring plan for Acsa.

Erwin was meant to brief the committee, together with Mokeyane, on the department's strategic plan but had to attend a Cabinet meeting.

Mokeyane said the impressions that the privatisation of parastatals was on hold were incorrect.

"Government is not letting off quietly. We engage with investors and discuss and share ideas on continual basis. They know that restructuring is continuing. The investors have a full understanding of what is happening... certainly matters are not on hold." - Sapa
