The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Adv Michael Masutha, will brief the media on the proposed provisions of the Traditional Courts Bill. The Bill has been approved by Cabinet for public consultation and will soon be tabled in Parliament.
The main purpose of the bill is to affirm values of the customary law and customs in the resolution of disputes, based on restorative justice and reconciliation. It also seeks to affirm the role of traditional courts in terms of customary law by aligning them with the Constitution.
