ADDRESS BY PROVINCIAL HEALTH MINISTER, PIET MEYER, AT THE HANDING OVER OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT TO THE EMS AND RED CROSS HOSPITAL 4 March 2004.
Steun uit die private sector of van oorsee vir gesondheidsdienste in die Wes-Kaap is onontbeerlik en speel 'n groot rol in die handhawing van gesondheidsorg in die provinsie. And just in case there is another potential overseas benefactor present at this function I am going to repeat what I have just said in English. I said: support from the private sector or from abroad for health services in this province plays an essential part if health care is to be maintained in the Western Cape.
Many of our hospitals, clinics or health care facilities depend on volunteers to function properly. Financial donations fill enormous budgetary gaps. Equipment donations manage to keep many tertiary and secondary health care facilities operational.
Today I accept a lot of medical equipment, more than a ton, on behalf of the Red Cross Children's Hospital and Emergency Medical Services. Part of the equipment is ten defibrillators.
