Labo ur minister Membathisi Mdladlana is in Harare today for talks with his Zimbabwean counterpart July Moyo about labour issues of mutual interest.

The two ministers’ are discussing matters concerning farm workers employed on South African farms and a proposed Memorandum of Understanding between two countries.

The issues, according to Minister Mdladlana’s spokesperson Snuki Zikalala, ‘represent our quest to work together and to formalise our cooperation in the field of employment.’
The meeting will also facilitate a briefing on broad Social Dialogue processes, Social Security Scheme Authority as well as other policies aimed at creating a labour market environment.

Mr Moyo visited South Africa last year and was hosted by Minister Mdladlana.

The recently launched sectoral determination for the agricultural sector applies to all workers in the sector irrespective of whether they are South African nationals or not, said Minister Mdladlana before his departure yesterday.

Sectoral determination is the minimum level of remuneration settled on by the department of labour for employees, to ensure that vulnerable workers are paid reasonable wages.

On his return to South Africa, Minister Mdladlana, who will accompanied by Minister Moyo, will on Friday visit some farms and areas of interest in the Musina area in Limpopo – BuaNews.
