South Africa is a member of ILO’s Governing Body and as such will be playing a key role at the conference.
Minister Mdladlana will participate in discussions on several issues including human resource training and development, the scope of employment relations, ILO occupational health and safety standards and the improvement of working conditions of seafarers.
President Thabo Mbeki is expected to address one of the conference’s sessions tomorrow.
South Africa’s foreign affairs deputy minister Aziz Pahad will also attend the meeting, following his official visit in Madrid, Spain and will depart from Madrid today to travel to Switzerland ahead of President Mbeki’s official visit. Minister Mdladlana and his delegation are expected to return to South Africa on 20 June. – BuaNews.
