A joint statement after the meeting said Mbeki and Buthelezi were briefed by the leaders of the ANC-IFP three-a-side committee, Deputy President Jacob Zuma and the Reverend Celani Mthethwa.
The briefing was on the work done by the committee and preparations for a planned meeting of the IFP's national council and the national executive committee of the ANC.
The statement said Mbeki and Buthelezi would lead delegations to this meeting.
There has been tension between Home Affairs Minister Buthelezi and the ANC for some time, stemming mainly from issues such as the status of his former director-general Billy Masetlha, immigration legislation, and, most recently, floor-crossing. – Sapa.
