Gill Marcus is a good choice to replace him as governor at the South African Reserve Bank, Tito Mboweni said on Sunday.
"It's a good choice, a good appointment," said Mboweni at a briefing where President Jacob Zuma announced the changeover that will take place in November this year.
"She [Marcus] is not a stranger to the Reserve Bank or to public service."
Mboweni said he has enjoyed "excellent working relations" with the Presidency, Treasury and Finance Ministers Trevor Manuel and Pravin Gordhan.
"Let me thank the President for affording me the opportunity to serve as governor...I'm really grateful for this opportunity to have served."
Asked what he would do after he left his job in November: "I think I have a bit of time to go fishing."
Meanwhile Marcus said she would describe her leadership style as "one of engagement.
"I'm there to listen and learn."
