Government's approach to science, engineering and technology - often referred to by the acronym SET - is to provide a solid and dependable environment for basic and applied research through the development of the essential skills force. In this way, systems will be put in place to continuously, and routinely produce new knowledge, which can be productively and creatively employed in various spheres, so that the SET framework can then be transformed into products that South Africans can use and sell.
