The Limpopo Provincial Government has today, 5 March 2015 launched and inaugurated the members of the  Human Resource Development Council at The Ranch Hotel, Polokwane.

MEC for Roads, Public Works and Infrastructure and Acting MEC for Education, Jerry Ndou spoke on behalf of the Premier to officially launch and inaugurated the members of the Limpopo Human Resource Development Council. Members emanate from government sector (all MECS and District Mayors), institutions of high learning (all universities and FET in Limpopo), business people, CEOs of SETAs and organised labour.

MEC Ndou emphasised that the Provincial Human Resource Development Council is tasked with providing information in terms of progress, challenges and interventions regarding skills development in the Province. He added that the Council has a duty to address challenges that are faced in the province. The Council will be headed by the Premier of the province, Chupu Stanley Mathabatha.

While the province is faced with challenge of producing or attracting relevant skills, the most challenge is retaining such skills in the province. MEC Jerry Ndou is confident that the launch of the Council is a step in the right direction and important towards building a dependable skills in the province.

"It is also important for us as government to have working partnerships with academic institutions in the province, mostly with our FET sector so that their programmes are able to respond to the skills demands of this province," said MEC Ndou.

"Human resource development is central to the attainment of national goals such as  fighting poverty and unemployment, improving economic growth and promoting social cohesion. The launch of this Council comes almost 5 years after the Human Resource Development Council of South Africa (HRDCSA) by the Presidency," he concluded.
