Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) will on Tuesday the 04th September 2012 host a media launch of the Provincial Tourism Month celebrations at Mopani Bush Camp in the Kruger National Park, under the theme: ‘Tourism & Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development’.
The launch forms part of the implementation of the Domestic Umbrella Marketing Campaign (DUMC), which was launched in July 2012. The decision to launch Tourism Month in the Kruger is to position Limpopo, as the preferred eco-tourism destination of choice.
The Acting CEO of LTA Ms. Seipati Tlaka, said, “We will use this event to take LTA Board and media representatives attending the launch on a tour of important tourism destinations in and around Phalaborwa including Phalaborwa Airport, Giriyondo Border Post between RSA and Mozambique, Letaba Ranch in the Kruger National Park, Amarula Lapa, Khamai Reptile Park and Hoedspruit Endangered Spices Centre”.
Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day on September 27. This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in global tourism. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide. The theme for this year is ‘Tourism and Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development.’
“The theme aims to highlight tourism’s role in a brighter energy future and to emphasise the importance of the role we, as tourism ambassadors play towards responsible tourism. It is upon all of us as role players in tourism to improve energy efficiency and also to use renewable energy technology in our tourism establishments in line with COP 17 Resolutions,” emphasised Tlaka.
On the 1st September 2012, the Agency will usher in Tourism Month in style by distributing 5 000 “themed roses” throughout the 5 Districts of the province to motorists and pedestrians as a way of welcoming Spring. The roses will have tags with the tourism month message.
Limpopo Tourism Agency will celebrate the following key events during the Tourism Month:
• Spring Day Celebrations,
• Annual Tourism Golf Day,
• Wildlife Mahala Week,
• Heritage Day, and
• World Tourism Day Celebrations
