The Democratic Alliance in the Northern Cape notes the slight 1.3% decrease in the expanded unemployment rate for the province. Since the expanded unemployment rate still hovers at 42%, however, this decrease is far too insignificant to be celebrated.
With the current cost of living crisis, it is difficult enough for people with a regular income to provide for their families. For the thousands and thousands of desperate jobseekers, it is impossible.
Consistent employment gains in the Western Cape, which has the lowest official and expanded unemployment rates in the country, shows that the right political will can go far in creating an environment that is conducive for the sustained creation of sustainable economic opportunities. It is only the DA that has the right plans implemented by the right people and the right track record in government to make a difference to the unemployed.
The latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey therefore emphasises how important it is for every voter who wants to rescue the Northern Cape from economic hopelessness to register to vote.
