KwaZulu-Natal hosts wreath-laying ceremony at grave of Mam Nyembe in Wentworth Cemetery

The Leader of Government Business Sihle Zikalala has been sworn in as the Acting Premier in Pietermaritzburg today.

“KwaZulu-Natal Province is in good hands. I have no doubt that Zikalala will do a sterling job.” That’s according to Premier Willies Mchunu who was speaking ahead of his departure to Shanghai.

He remarked: “As part of our efforts aimed at ensuring the provision of quality healthcare to the people of KwaZulu-Natal, we are always on the look-out for best practices in healthcare management. It is for this reason that myself, KZN Health MEC Dr Sbongiseni Dhlomo, Mayor of eThekwini Cllr Zandile Gumede will attend the 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion and the Mayors Forum of International Healthy Cities.”

The People’s Republic of China and the World Health Organisation are joint organisers of this conference scheduled to start on the 21st to the 24th November. This gathering will examine how cities can promote health in the context of rapid urbanisation towards the Sustainable Development Agenda.

Mchunu further pointed out: “There are other activities taking place this weekend in the province. Today, we have a Dorothy Nyembe Memorial Lecture taking place at the Umlazi Cinema.”

“In addition, on Saturday there will be wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of Mam Nyembe in Wentworth Cemetery. This will be followed by the unveiling of the statue of this veteran of our struggle at E Section UMlazi.”

“I invite members of the public to be part of the main event aimed at celebrating the heroic deeds of this pathfinder of our freedom. She spent her entire life fighting for this democracy we are enjoying today.”
